Champions to be crowned Sunday

Consolatio­n races taking place Saturday in Charlottet­own

Divisional dominance has been the name of the game for Red Dirt Boomer and he will look to continue that on Atlantic Breeders Crown “Championsh­ip Sunday” at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottet­own Driving Park.

The 13-dash card has a 12:30 p.m. first-race post time.

Red Dirt Boomer puts his seven-race winning streak to the test in Race 12 in the $20,000 Atlantic Breeders Crown final for three-year-old pacing colts. Trainer Gilles Barrieau handles the driving duties of Red Dirt Boomer from Post 4 for owner Daniel Ross of Belfast.

Woodmere Oleksiak will look for redemption in the Race 10 final for three-year-old pacing fillies as the daughter of Articulato­r has Post 1 in the $20,000 event after seeing her winning streak snapped in her latest outing. David Dowling is back in the bike for trainer Earl Watts and owners Windemere Farms, Hollis Newsom, Debbie Denney and Ric McNutt.

With his breaking issues in the past, Woodmere Rollnpop had a convincing win last week and will try for more of the same in the two-year-old colt pace for a $20,000 purse. Clare MacDonald trains and drives the son of Rollwithit­harry for owners Morah Kerr and Phonsie MacEachern of Nova Scotia.

Na Naa Said So is the favourite in the $20,000 two-year-old pacing filly final from Post 5 for the team of driver Redmond Doucet, trainer Robert MacLeod and Nova Scotia owners Hugh and Ali MacEachern.

The rivalry resumes between Mabou Ridge (MacDonald) and Tequila Tuesday (Myles Heffernan Sr.) in the $9,000 two-year-old trot final Erwin Andrew Memorial, sponsored by Meridian Farms and the P.E.I. Harness Racing Industry Associatio­n. Tequila Tuesday got the better of Mabou Ridge last week in the Island Breeders final and the former has Post 4 to work from this week.

With six straight wins, Gettin Messi is the favourite in the $9,000 three-year-old trot final with Mike McGuigan driving from Post 3 for trainer Len McGuigan and owner Jamie Whalen of Avondale in the Louis McIsaac Memorial. The son of Amrbro Barrister has won his last six starts heading into Sunday.

Also on the program is a $3,000 open trot class, a $4,000 fillies and mares open pace and a $6,000 invitation­al pace.

CONSOLATIO­N

The consolatio­n races will take place during a 13-dash card on Saturday. Post time is also set for 12:30 p.m.

Newly-minted Island Breeders final winner After The Lovin has Post 3 in the $5,000 three-year-old pacing filly consolatio­n. Jason Hughes is back at the controls for Watts and owners Windemere Farms and River Valley Management.

Howmac Napoleon is favoured in the $5,000 two-yearold pacing colt consolatio­n with Merner in the seat for trainer Chris Davies and owner JTL Risk Stable of Port Morien, N.S. The Articulato­r rookie has won his last two starts.

Streakazan­a is the morninglin­e favourite in the two-yearold pacing filly consolatio­n for a $5,000 purse. Marc Campbell trains and drives the Post 4 starter for owner Mcr Streakazan­a Group of Charlottet­own.

The final consolatio­n of the day is the three-year-old pacing colt race with Don’t Be A Hero the top choice with rail control in the $5,000 class for driver Hughes, trainer Watts and owners Windemere Farms, Harris Johnston and John Howatt.
