Wo-He-Lo Sale begins today to support QEH NICU equipment
The Wo-He-Lo Club is once again supporting the purchase of priority medical equipment for the Island’s most fragile babies of the QEH Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) with their Annual Fall Clothing Sale.
The sale is taking place at the QEH on Oct.16-18 and WoHe-Lo members are looking for support to help these tiny patients and their families.
Kathy Larter, nurse manager of the Nursery and the NICU, says the priority item this year is a Giraffe Omnibed at an estimated cost of $55,000. This equipment is a combination of an incubator and a warmer, providing an optimal neonatal environment for newborn patients.
“The provincial NICU is beginning to make the required equipment upgrades to enable the QEH to care for newborns from 28-week to 32-week gestation periods,” says Larter.
“With this innovative piece in place, we’ll be one step closer to that goal.”
The Giraffe Omnibed will allow NICU staff to access and care for delicate patients while ensuring they remain as peaceful as possible.
Specialized monitors detect changes to vital signs and will alert staff so they can respond immediately.
Larter says the equipment fosters the bonding between newborns and their parents.
“Parents will have comfortable and close access to their precious babies.”
Wo-He-Lo Club president, Heather Keith, says this upcoming sale will feature another wonderful selection of high-quality, gently used clothing for the whole family.
“As fall is upon us, we invite Islanders to check out our large selection of fall and winter fashions. We have beautiful dresses for the upcoming holiday season as well as business and casual clothes for both men and women at great prices. We also have plenty of shoes and boots, along with purses, belts and jewelry. There’s something for everybody.”
The sale will take place at the QEH on the third floor in Classroom A and B beginning Wednesday, Oct. 16 from 12-4 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 17 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Friday, Oct. 18 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
