ABRAM-VILLAGE — Few musical genres can hook an audience into silence and express “gratitude” quite as well as country music, says songwriter and musician Jeannita Bernard.

Bernard and her husband were among the crowd at the Acadian Musical Village hall in Abram-Village on Thanksgiving weekend.

The hall was hosting the 10th annual Evangeline Country Music Festival.

“One of my all-time favourite country songs is called ‘Rose-Coloured Glasses.’ The song performed last night was a gift to the audience,” said Bernard, who noted that when the singer paused for breath, nothing but a pin drop could be heard in the hall.

“There’s a message in that song about the beauty of the world,” she said while enjoying a musical Sunday brunch.

“And, the calibre of the local musicians was excellent. I write songs and play guitar, so I really listened and appreciated the quiet and peacefulness of everyone in attendance.”

The three-day festival had around 25 P.E.I. singers and musicians take to the stage to pay tribute to the country music legends such as George Jones, Dolly Parton, Merle Haggard, Johnny Cash, and Tammy Wynette, to name a few.

Raymond Bernard, Evangeline Country Music Festival committee member, said the festival brought a full house.

“It was a lot of fun to see,” he said.

While families came from all walks of life to soak in the country vibe, there was a connection and sense of thankfulness through the tunes.

Such was the case for Jeannita and her husband, Marcel, who noted that he attends the festival every year and brings his family along.

“We are thankful for everything we have, the food on the table, the musicians performing in the background, family, and friends,” Marcel said.
