Students busy with fall activities

KINKORA REGIONAL HIGH SCHOOL

The Blazer Beef Supper, a major KRHS fundraisin­g event, will be held at Kinkora Place on Saturday, Oct. 26 from 4-6 p.m. Cost is $15 for adults and $8 for children-under-12. Take-outs will be available. This initiative involves parents, students, staff and the community.

Parent volunteers are a huge part in the success of the supper. If parents/guardians are interested in lending a helping hand, call Tracy Thomson or Ryan McAleer at 902-887-2424.

October is Canadian Library Month. The KRHS Library is open every day before school, during class, at breaks, at noon, and after school.

The Royal Canadian Legion Borden-Carleton Branch No. 10 is invites students to enter the annual Remembranc­e Day Poster and Literary Contest. Grade 9 falls under the intermedia­te category while Grade 10-12 is senior. Students may submit poetry, essays as well as black and white and colour posters. Deadline is Nov. 13.

Grad photos will be taken on Friday, Nov. 15 at Heckbert’s in Summerside.

KRHS, KISH, and TOSH will visit France, Belgium and the Netherland­s as part of the Liberation of The Netherland­s 75 Tour, set for April 28-May 7. Students are selling 50/50 tickets every Tuesday evening at the Kinkora Bingo and every Thursday evening at the Borden-Carleton Bingo. Tickets are also being sold on a gift card tree. COLONEL GRAY HIGH SCHOOL

A welcome is extended to UPEI pre-service teachers doing their eight-week fall placement Oct. 23 to Dec. 18. Patrick Barrios will be working with Rebecca Branton, Colleen Hughes with Erin Costello, Connor Murphy with Thane Arsenault, Michael Sima with Corinne Chappell and Alex Smith with Scott MacCormack.

A homecoming semi-formal school dance is Oct. 24, 7 – 10 p.m. Admission is $5. There will be music, dance, canteen and a photo booth. Anyone previously missed on school photo days, will have the opportunit­y again on Oct. 29.

Graduation photos will be taken by Heckbert Studios from Oct. 30 – Nov. 7 in the library.

The Key Club has had a busy fall. Members appreciate the Charlottet­own Kiwanis Club for its generous grant of $10,000 to support the clubs' Dare to Dream Project. These funds will be used to promote inclusion and celebrate the diversity of our school population. The club volunteere­d with the Terry Fox Run, made centerpiec­es for the Kidney Foundation gala dinner and has the Art Club and Homework Club up and running at Queen Charlotte Intermedia­te.

MORELL REGIONAL HIGH SCHOOL

This week the grad class has arranged an activity to celebrate the Halloween season. Students will be travelling to the Haunted Mansion in Kensington on Thursday for a fright night followed by a movie and snacks. There will be a pumpkin carving contest prior to departure from the school.

The first school dance is set for Oct. 30 Students are encouraged to dress in costume for the event. Prizes will be awarded in different categories.

The Music Department is also constructi­ng its annual Haunted House. This will be open to the students as well as the community on certain evenings. Watch the website for specific times.

Parents are reminded that midterms and parent/teacher interviews are fast approachin­g for the first week in November.

CHARLOTTET­OWN RURAL HIGH SCHOOL

Student Vote, a program created by CIVIX, encourages civic engagement in young people through lessons leading to a parallel election.

Four classes participat­ed in a candidates' forum on October 9 to learn about federal party policies. Appreciati­on is expressed to Sean Casey, Anna Keenan and Lynne Thiele for taking time from their busy schedules to talk to the students.

On Oct. 18, Charlottet­own Rural students participat­ed in a school-wide vote with ballots representi­ng the ridings of our students: Cardigan, Charlottet­own and Malpeque.

WESTISLE COMPOSITE HIGH SCHOOL

Chess club runs Monday and Wednesdays from 11:30 a.m.12:15 p.m.

Westisle's bus parking is switching up a bit for students traveling home at the end of the day. All buses will be lined up facing the school and each row will be numbered.

The buses on the left will go to Hernewood and the buses on the right will go to Callaghan. An administra­tor will be at the back doors if there are any questions.

Ten student volunteers are needed for the Christmas Market, which runs Nov. 2-3. If students are interested in helping out, getting volunteer or bursary hours, plan to see Mrs. Morgan to sign up.
