Master Corporal Jody Mitic and Maj. Dr. Trevor Jain to headline P.E.I. Friends of True Patriot Love 2019 Tribute Dinner Nov. 5

Jody Mitic was a sniper team leader in Afghanistan when he stepped on a Taliban IED and lost both his feet.

Mitic, now a motivational speaker as well as a retired master corporal and 20-year veteran of the Canadian Armed Forces, will join Maj. Dr. Trevor Jain as the keynote speaker at the third biennial P.E.I. Friends of True Patriot Love tribute dinner.

The dinner is scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 5 at the Delta Prince Edward in Charlottetown.

Mitic is a respected advocate for wounded veterans, people with disabilities, mental health and addictions. He openly discusses his past struggle with addictions secondary to his service having successfully completed rehab.

Heavily involved in the Invictus Games, Mitic was an Invictus ambassador and returned to Kabul, Afghanistan, to light the Invictus flame in 2017. Mitic and his younger brother, Cory, also participated in season one of "The Amazing Race Canada," where they battled their way to second place despite his disability.

Mitic, who served on Ottawa city council from 2014-18 had a national best seller with his memoir, “Unflinching: The Making of a Canadian Sniper" and his second book “Everyday Heroes."

Mitic and Jain have been close friends since collaborating on

"Everyday Heroes." Through their shared experiences they have developed a strong friendship.

Jain has served with the Canadian Armed Forces for 31 years.

During his last year of medical school at Dalhousie University he was seconded by the army as the pathology operations officer for the Swiss Air disaster in 1998.

He was involved with the design and operations of the morgue as well as completing autopsies on the victims.

He deployed multiple times for combat and humanitarian operations and has served as a trauma team leader and the military clinical director in Bosnia at a Role 3 NATO hospital.

He has served in the Middle East as a flight surgeon supporting air operations in the fight against ISIS.

He continues to serve as the 36th Canadian Brigade Surgeon and was cross appointed as the Second in command of the Prince Edward Island Regiment from 2012-17.

He is an emergency physician at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital and the medical director of Paramedicine Programs at

Holland College and the program director of the Division of Paramedicine at UPEI.

We look forward to hosting more than 40 veterans as we gather to raise funds that will go towards supporting our Island veterans and their families,” said Valerie Docherty, chair of P.E.I. Friends of True Patriot Love organizing committee.

This year's event goal is to raise more than $50,000 that will go towards P.E.I. veterans, military and their families.
