Shelley Muzika won five Prince Edward Island women’s curling championsh­ips and made it to the final seven more times.

She won an Island junior title, a mixed championsh­ip and represente­d the province at the 1983 Canada Games in Saguenay-LacSt-Jean, Que.

Tonight, her career will be recognized with induction into the Prince Edward Island Curling Hall of Fame and Museum.

Muzika began curling at the Charlottet­own Curling Club when she was in junior high school. Marty Winslow, the physical education teacher at Birchwood at the time, brought interested kids to the nearby club to learn the game.

Muzika’s first taste of victory in competitiv­e play came in 1983 when she teamed with skip Heather Mader, third Janice MacCallum and lead Karolyn Godfrey to win the right to represent the Island at the Canada Games. The Marilyn Sutherland-coached squad finished tied for first in their pool at 3-2 but lost in a tiebreaker.

In 1984, Muzika won the

P.E.I. junior title while throwing third stones for skip Janice MacCallum. The squad, which included second Karolyn Godfrey, Anne Partridge and coach Dr. Bob Johnston, went 4-7 at nationals.

Muzika won her first women’s title in 1987 with skip Kim Dolan, third Karen Jones and lead Nancy Reid. Dolan, Jones and Muzika were victorious again in 1990 with MacCallum at lead.

Her third title came in 1994 with skip Shelly Danks (now Bradley), Reid at third, MacCallum at second and Muzika throwing lead stones. They finished 7-4 at the Scotties, losing a tiebreaker.

Muzika played second with skip Tammi Lowther, third Susan McInnis and lead Julie Scales en route to the 1998 title.

Her fifth Island women’s crown came in 2009 while playing second with skip Robyn MacPhee, third Rebecca Jean MacPhee and Lowther at lead. They finished round-robin play 7-4 at nationals but lost a tiebreaker.

Muzika won the P.E.I. mixed championsh­ip in 1996 with her husband Blair Weeks skipping, MacCallum at third and Doug Weeks at second.

They finished 5-6 at nationals.
