Charlottetown to host annual Fix It Fair
Pre-registration required for event on Saturday, Nov. 2
The City of Charlottetown will host the third annual Fix It Fair on Saturday, Nov. 2.
Taking place at the West Royalty Community Centre from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., the free event will include a repair café, workshops, booths and more.
The café will include fixers from a variety of expertise who have volunteered their services to assist in the free repair of various household items. The city is looking for volunteers who have repair skills for all kinds of household items, including clothing, small household appliances, electronics and more.
The event is designed to connect residents with community resources, teach practical repair skills and provide opportunities to learn about different ways to practice sustainability.
The repair café also helps reduce waste by assisting with the repair of items that might otherwise be destined for the landfill.
Hourly workshops will also focus on reducing waste.
Their role is not only to repair broken items but to share their knowledge and teach residents how to perform similar repairs.
Participants can bring one item (such as a small appliance or item of clothing) per person to be repaired by the skilled on-site fixers, free of charge. Pre-registration is required. To pre-register for the repair café or to view a schedule of hourly workshops, visit Charlottetown.ca/fixitfair.
