Canadian Red Cross offers informatio­n sessions on Dorian relief, Nov. 5-8

The Canadian Red Cross is holding four informatio­n sessions this week for homeowners, small businesses and notfor-profit organizati­ons that have already applied for or are still considerin­g applying for the P.E.I. government's Provincial Disaster Financial Assistance program (PDFAP) for uninsurabl­e, essential basic property loss due to post-tropical storm Dorian.

The province announced Oct. 3 that the Red Cross on its behalf would receive and process applicatio­ns and distribute eligible amounts.

Applicants must register with the Red Cross no later than Nov. 29 by calling 1-800-863-6582, and submitting completed applicatio­ns no later than Dec. 13, 2019.

To answer questions and offer inperson help, the Red Cross will offer informatio­n sessions at its Charlottet­own office at 29 Paramount Dr. Following is the schedule: Nov. 5-6 – walk-in support, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., informatio­n session: noon to 2 p.m.; informatio­n session, 6-8 p.m.; , Nov. 7-8 – walk-in support, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., informatio­n session: noon to 2 p.m.

Each informatio­n session includes a 40-minute presentati­on, followed by 20 minutes for general questions and one hour for one-to-one individual support to homeowners, small businesses and not-for-profit organizati­ons. Anyone who has not yet registered with the Red Cross can also do so on-site.

The sessions are in addition to existing informatio­n channels, including calling toll-free 1-800-863-6582, sending an email to PEIsupport@redcross.ca or visiting online at redcross.ca/pei/dorian.
