Spartans, Privateers to close out a big weekend of championsh­ip games

SUMMERSIDE – A big weekend of championsh­ip football in Summerside will come to a close on Sunday.

The Summerside Cox and Palmer Spartans will meet the Charlottet­own Privateers at Eric Johnston Field in the championsh­ip game of the Papa John’s P.E.I. Atom Tackle Football League at 11 a.m. Fans are asked to note the game is on Sunday and not Saturday as previously reported.

The Potato Bowl and Ed Hilton

Bowl varsity and bantam title games will still be played today.

The atom final features the top two teams in the regular season. Summerside finished first with a 3-0-1 while the Privateers were second at 1-2-1.

The two teams played two close regular-season games as the Spartans won 24-18 and the other ended in a 36-36 tie.
