Keighan Michael Scott cut electronic monitoring bracelet he wore as part of conditional sentence

A P.E.I. man who was given house arrest for a string of offences will have to serve that sentence in jail after cutting his electronic monitoring bracelet less than a week after he got it.

Keighan Michael Scott, 33, appeared before Judge John Douglas in provincial court in Charlottetown recently where he acknowledged breaching his conditional sentence order.

Scott also pleaded guilty to damaging the electronic monitoring bracelet and using a stolen Visa.

During a previous court appearance on Oct. 10, Douglas gave Scott a seven-month conditional sentence for a crime spree that included stealing high-end headphones and using stolen cards to make purchases.

at his most recent court appearance, Crown attorney Lisa Goulden told the court that on Oct. 15, Scott cut the strap on the electronic monitoring ankle bracelet he was required to wear and left the device at his home. He was arrested six days later. In a separate incident, Scott used a stolen Visa several times at a Circle K store in Charlottetown for a total of $99.85.

Douglas gave Scott a suspended sentence for using the card and 30 days to be served concurrently for damaging the ankle bracelet.

He also terminated the conditional sentence order leaving Scott to serve his time in jail.

Scott will be on probation for two years after his release, which included conditions that he pay $99.85 in restitution for using the Visa and $18.75 for damaging the electronic monitoring bracelet.
