P.E.I. contingent does well at 4-H event in Toronto

The Island's participation in this year's Royal Agricultural Winter Fair in Toronto got off to a good start, with the 4-H beef team placing well in the National Junior Beef Heifer Show.

More than 300 youth from a number of provinces took part in the event which spanned two days.

The first day of competition saw members show their abilities in the showmanship classes, with two Island competitors advancing in their respective classes.

In intermediate showmanship, Molly Loane made it through to the second round, and Jory Donovan made it to the second round in her heat of senior showmanship.

Day two had 4-H exhibitors up well before the sun rose to get their animals ready for the breed conformation classes.

In Simmentals, Loane placed sixth in her yearling class with Mast-R Flirt 70F.

Two Herefords were shown by the Island team.

Hunter-Acres XP Fonda 2F was fourth for Olivia Drake in a yearling class.

In another yearling class, Daniel Naddy was in eighth spot with Top-Of-The-Hill Fancy Lady 12F.

The commercial division had three P.E.I. entries making their way into the ring. Donovan garnered a second with her calf,

Fifty Shades of Grey. In the yearling classes, Ryan Boswall also captured a second prize ribbon with Everest. Cody Cudmore's yearling, Roseabelle, was awarded a seventh placing.

Nicole Drake's Charolais yearling, Hunter-Acres Florence 2F, placed sixth in her class, while Sawyer Acorn also received a sixth with JPA Dundas Dance Desire 902G in the calf section, and his sister, Isabella Acorn, was seventh with her calf, JPA Dundas Rose 1G.

Rounding out the Island contingent at the Royal was Madison Pirch who showed Worth-A-Bit Pride 7F. The Angus yearling was seventh in her class.
