New CADC board coming together

The board of directors for the newly-revamped Charlottetown Area Development Corporation (CADC) is starting to come together.
Charlottetown council recently held a special meeting to appoint its two representatives, naming Terry Hennessey and Craig Walker, in a unanimous vote.
And, Stratford town council recently appointed its member, Mi- chael Fleischmann, who also sits on the town’s sustainability committee.
That leaves seven seats left to fill, all of which will be designated by the provincial government.
The nominations for all seats closed on Nov. 12 and a decision is expected shortly.
Former premier Wade MacLauchlan announced in 2016 that the province was taking control of CADC but current Premier Dennis King fulfilled an election promise and reversed that decision, prompting the current process of revamping the organization.
CADC’s mandate is to innovate, invest and provide expertise for projects; act as a catalyst with the private sector and initiate development projects and facilitate urban renewal.
The new board will be comprised of seven people designated by the province, two by the City of Charlottetown and one by the Town of Stratford.
The Town of Cornwall has chosen not to participate at this time but Charlottetown Mayor Philip Brown has previously told The Guardian he hoped they would have a seat at the table in an observer’s role.
CADC currently manages seven parking facilities, including Pownal, Fitzroy and Queen, along with parking facilities at Harbourside, Peakes Wharf and Queens Wharf.
It has also developed properties, such as Founders’ Hall, the Bio Commons Business Park and the Charlottetown Event Grounds, the latter of which is operated by Eastlink Centre.
