CONCERTS/ CHRISTMAS EVENTS

The Charlottet­own Legion Choir and Teachers and Friends in Harmony Choir present Charles

Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol” with 65-plus singers, community musicians and local storytelle­rs. A chat and tasty refreshmen­ts will follow. “O Holy Night”, an evening of Christmas stories and music focusing on the birth of Jesus will be held on Dec. 15, 6.30 p.m., in St. Joachim’s Hall, Vernon River. Admission is by donation, and all proceeds will go to the P.E.I. Down Syndrome Society.

The 2019 Holy Redeemer Candleligh­t Carol Service is Dec. 15, 7 p.m., in the church on Pond Street, Charlottet­own, with readings, choir selections, group singing, solos by Julia MacVicar, Dino Dunsford and David Altass and congregati­onal singing with the choir. The music will include both modern and traditiona­l Christmas carols. The choir will be directed by Gloria O’Rourke. Admission will be by donation.

NEW YEAR’S EVE EVENTS

New Year’s Eve Dance is Dec. 31 at Rustico Bay Seniors Club with Country Steele, a well-known band that plays everything from old-time favourites to country and country rock. The club is at 2104 Church Rd., Rustico. Dancing is 9 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. Bar service available. A compliment­ary lunch will be served, and there will be a 50/50. New Year’s Eve gala dinner and

dance are Dec. 31 at the Jack Blanchard Centre, Charlottet­own. Ticket are $45 per person (hot roast beef or hot turkey dinner and the dance) or $20 per person (dance only). Music is by Kendall Docherty, Dino Dunsford and Peter Burke with George MacPhee, Heartz Godkin and Bob Gagnon. There will be bar service and a 50/50 draw in support of an Island charity. The Heritage Social Dance Group at Beaconsfie­ld holds its annual December Dance Party on Dec. 6, 7-9:30 p.m., at Beaconsfie­ld’s Carriage House, corner of Kent and West streets, Charlottet­own.
