It’s finally here! Santa’s coming tonight

- JILL ELLSWORTH

Are you as excited as I am? Santa Claus is coming to town tonight! I can hardly believe it. Right now, the elves are probably helping Santa pack up his sleigh so he’ll be ready to visit us all. That must be one heavy sleigh because there are so many great kids around here. Do you think the reindeer are ready for their big trip? Which one is your favourite? I think mine might be Blitzen, but shh, don’t tell Rudolph. Did you know that different countries around the world have their own special Christmas traditions? In Germany, children leave their boots by the fireplace. If they’ve been good all year, Santa will fill their boots with yummy treats, but if they’ve been bad, they get sticks. I hope I don’t get any sticks for Christmas! In England, Santa leaves presents at the foot of each child’s bed. Where do you open your Christmas presents? I like to open mine in the living room, all bundled up in my special Christmas Eve PJs. But my favourite part of Christmas is spending time with all of my family and friends, it’s even better than presents! I wonder where Santa is now… Oh! I know what we can do to find out. Just ask a grown up to help you visit noradsanta.org or call 1-877-HiNORAD for Santa's up-to-date location. NORAD has a great team of people who track everything that flies through the sky, including Santa! The North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) is a United States and Canada bi-national organization which defends the homeland through aerospace warning, aerospace control, and maritime warning for North America. "In addition to our day-today mission of defending North America, we are proud to carry on the tradition of tracking Santa as he travels along his yuletide flight path," said Gen. Terrence O'Shaughnessy, commander of NORAD and U.S. Northern Command. "The same radars, satellites and interceptors employed on December 24 are used yearround to defend Canadian and American airspace from threats." And don’t worry – even if the weather isn’t great in all parts of the world, Rudolph has managed to get Santa safely through the skies for years. With NORAD backing them up in Canada, it’ll be smooth sailing. It’s going to be hard to fall asleep tonight knowing how exciting the morning will be, but if we all get to bed nice and early, Christmas will be here before we know it. I’m going to go get my milk and cookies ready for Santa. I hope you have the greatest Christmas ever!
