Free screening of 'Motherload' at City Cinema
The City of Charlottetown mayor’s taskforce on active transportation invites the public to attend a free screening of "Motherload", a crowdsourced documentary about a new mother’s quest to understand the increasing isolation and disconnection of the digital age, its planetary impact and how cargo bikes could be an antidote.
The taskforce is an advisory committee made up of community members with an interest in active transportation.
The committee was developed with the purpose of improving active transportation through education, policy recommendations and program development.
The taskforce has arranged for "Motherload" to be screened at City Cinema (64 King Street) on Sunday, Jan. 12, at 2 p.m. Admission is free.
The film has not been rated for this screening. Those concerned about content are asked to visit the FAQs at the bottom of the host screening section of the "Motherload" website: http://motherloadmovie.com/hostscreening.
"Motherload" filmmaker Liz Canning cycled everywhere until she had twins in 2008.
Hauling babies via car was not only unsustainable but Canning felt like it took the freedom and adventure out of life.
She Googled “family bike” and uncovered a global movement of people replacing cars with cargo bikes: long-frame bicycles designed for carrying passengers and heavy loads.
Canning set out to learn more, and "Motherload" was born.
