The saga of Nova Scotia-shot projects based on properties by horror master Stephen King gets a new chapter in 2020.

Premium U.S. cable network Epix has announced that a 10-episode series "Jerusalem's Lot", inspired by the King short story from his 1978 "Night Shift" anthology, will start filming in and around Halifax in May.

Set to star is Academy Award-winning actor Adrien Brody (The Pianist) as sea captain Charles Boone, who moves his family to the small town of Preacher's Corners, Maine, after his wife dies at sea in the 1850s.

While reconnecting with his ancestral home, Boone is forced to confront dark secrets from the past while fighting against the evil forces that have cursed his family for generations. The story of "Jerusalem's Lot" would help to inform King's bestselling novel 'Salem's Lot, which also became a TV movie in 1979 and a miniseries in 2004.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the MGM-owned network is making "Jerusalem's Lot" through its own in-house company Epix Productions, with Wayward Pines' Donald De Line as executive producer and showrunners Jason Filardi (17 Again) and his brother Peter Filardi ("The Craft", "Flatliners").

"This series is an intense, absolutely terrifying reimagining of classic gothic horror," Epix president Michael Wright was quoted as saying in the Hollywood Reporter. "We can’t wait to work with the exceptional team of Donald De Line and Jason and Peter Filardi, along with our phenomenal lead actor,

"Jerusalem's Lot" is far from the first time that Nova Scotia's small town and shoreline settings have stood in for King's haunted interpretation of New England. Most recently, five seasons of the SyFy series "Haven" were filmed on the South Shore, while previous productions include the 2017 TV series "The Mist", the 2011 miniseries "Bag of Bones" with Pierce Brosnan and the 1995 feature film "Dolores Claiborne" with Kathy Bates and Jennifer Jason Leigh.

Other recent Epix-produced series include "Godfather of Harlem" starring Forrest Whitaker, "Perpetual Grace Ltd." starring Ben Kingsley and Jacki Weaver and DC's "Pennyworth", about the early adventures of Batman's butler Alfred.
