Hurricanes playing 10 games on home soil this weekend

It will be a busy weekend at home for the Holland College Hurricanes as they host 10 games in regular season basketball, volleyball and hockey.

VOLLEYBALL

The volleyball ’Canes will continue their Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Associatio­n (ACAA) seasons today with the men and women playing the UNBSJ Seawolves. The women hit the court at 1 p.m. with the men’s game to follow at 3 p.m. The men’s team play Sunday at 10 a.m. while Holland College’s women’s squad host the King’s College Blue Devils at noon.

The women’s Hurricanes, ranked 10th by the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Associatio­n (CCAA), enter the weekend at 8-0 and lead the ACAA standings. The Seawolves (2-6) are seventh while the Blue Devils (5-3) are third. The men’s Hurricanes (1-6) sit in fourth place while the Seawolves (3-4) are in third place.

The ’Canes are hoping the additions of Aaron Pugh and Zach Thibodeau will provide a boost in the final eight games of the regular season prior to the conference championsh­ips in Sackville, N.B.

BASKETBALL

The basketball ’Canes host the Blue Devils for back-to-back games. The women play today at 5:30 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. while the men play today 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 4 p.m.

The Holland College women, 10ih in the CCAA rankings, are 5-2 and in second place in the ACAA alongside the Blue Devils, who are ranked 15th nationally.

The men’s Hurricanes, also 5-2 and in second place in the ACAA this season, were ranked 12th in the country this week. They’re set to host the 2-5 Blue Devils, who currently sit sixth in the conference.

Second semester additions to the Hurricanes roster include Logan Rempel and Adrian Thompson, who will both make their home debuts this weekend.

HOCKEY

The Holland College women’s hockey team is set to return to the Cavendish Farms Wellness Centre in Montague this weekend to host the Cape Breton Capers this weekend.

In a season heavily impacted by poor weather, the ‘Canes and Capers have only managed to play a combined four regular season games.

Both teams enter today’s Atlantic Collegiate Hockey Associatio­n contest at 0-2.
