Boaters at Island marinas, yacht clubs eager to hit the water.

Boaters with cabin fever are keen to hit the water, says the co-owner of Charlottetown Marina and Peakes Quay Marina.

“They can’t wait to be back on the water, out of their house,’’ says Lisa Gale.

“We’re excited and optimistic and hope that we have a good season.’’

Gale says the two Charlottetown marinas are scheduled to officially open May 22 but adds vessels can start being docked this week.

Boaters need to adhere to social distancing, which includes no beaching a boat right next to another. Also, only people living in the same household may be on the same boat.

Gale says the restaurants on a floating dock at Peakes Quay Marina — The Chip Shack, Nimrods and Zax Burgers & Shakes — plan to open on a take-out basis, as will The Cork and Cast on its floating dock at the Charlottetown Marina.

The Silver Fox Yacht Club in Summerside normally has its docks in around midMay.

Board chairman Pat Aylward says his best bet for this year is late May or early June.

“There are so many things to be determined about how the roll-out goes,’’ says Aylward.

“We want to be responsible in our efforts.’’

Roughly 60 boats normally dock at the Silver Fox.

Aylward says options are being explored for operating the Breakwater Bar and Grill in compliance with the public health office directives.

“It’s a fairly big operation,’’ says Aylward.

“We are used to doing huge banquets.’’

Decks have yet to be put in place at the Charlottetown Yacht Club.

The building remains closed, including the washrooms.

The parking lot is open to members only.

The ramp is open to the public by appointment only by calling 902-892-9065 or emailing manager@cyc.pe.ca.

Boats are not to be brought to the Charlottetown Yacht Club without an appointment.
