Post-production process

Still The Water, a feature-length film shot on Prince Edward Island, nearly complete

- MILLICENT MCKAY

The post-production of a feature-length film shot on P.E.I. is nearly complete.

Still The Water, written by Summerside's Susan Rodgers, wrapped filming almost a year ago. Now Rodgers is looking forward to seeing the finished product.

"It's crazy, we've got a few things to finish up and then all of a sudden, we'll be hitting the market," said Rodgers.

The process, from filming to post-production, has been interesting she said.

"Thankfully we have all of these tools that have allowed us to continue the project during quarantine. Post-production was taking place in Toronto, but then we moved it to Halifax. We were able to go over a couple of times before COVID-19 hit. The guys at 902 Post have been great; we've been able to see what they see in real-time and make notes and changes to the film."

What Rodgers is sad about missing is screening the film in a theatre setting.

But she's trying to adapt to the changing climate in the filmmaking industry.

"I attended (the Toronto

International Film Festival) last year and it was so elbowto-elbow. It's full of networking and buzz. This year the festivals are happening, but they might be online. We won't travel, there won't be that face-to-face that is really important in finding buyers for the movie."

She said her team plans to reach out to buyers (a distributor) in advance of the festivals.

"We have a publicist who is putting together an electronic press kit, we'll send out the trailer, images and, if they ask for it, the final screener."

Sherri-Lee Pike, who starred in the film as Alice

MacAulay, is excited to see the final product.

"There were so many cool things that happened on this project and there are lots of deep community ties, so many beautiful shots of the Island."

She said she's seen the movie from the perspective of being in it, but the camera could catch so much more.

"I've seen the stills and it's captured so much more than I could have imagined. Like, there's a photo of me and a sunset. It kind of just came out of nowhere, and they were like, 'stand here, we need to get the light'. I know how I saw it, but I didn't know the camera saw it that way, too."

“It’s crazy, we’ve got a few things to finish up and then all of a sudden, we’ll be hitting the market.”
