Christopher Kevin Jamieson unrepresented in first appearance

A Kings County man who was arrested after an alleged incident involving shots fired last week made his first court appearance Monday.

Christopher Kevin Jamieson, 37, appeared before Chief Judge Nancy Orr in provincial court by video from jail where he has been in custody since his arrest.

Jamieson is facing several charges that include reckless discharge of a firearm, carrying a firearm for a purpose dangerous to the public peace and two counts of possessing a firearm while prohibited.

The firearm prohibitions relate to convictions in Grand Falls and Woodstock in New Brunswick.

On Saturday, RCMP officers from Queens and Kings districts, along with the police dog service and a drone officer, responded to a report of shots fired in the St. Marys Road area.

In a report of the incident, the RCMP said the emergency response team was on its way when other officers at the scene arrested Jamieson.

The RCMP alleges Jamieson fired upwards of 40 rounds of ammunition during the incident that led to the police response.

During his court appearance, Jamieson said he hadn’t spoken to a lawyer yet and, at one point, told the court he didn’t foresee himself getting one.

Orr repeatedly recommended to Jamieson that he speak to a lawyer before his next court date.

“These are very serious matters,” she said.

Crown attorney Nathan Beck, who took part in the proceedings by phone because of public health measures in place due to the coronavirus (COVID-19 strain) pandemic, told the court he was seeking to have Jamieson kept in custody.

Jamieson was remanded into custody until his next court appearance on June 3.
