Film honoured on World Oceans Day

The internatio­nally acclaimed documentar­y Bluefin (53 minutes), directed by Island filmmaker John Hopkins and produced by the National Film Board of Canada (NFB), was virtually honoured for World Oceans Day on June 8 at the prestigiou­s 2020 Bluewater Film Festival streaming from Martha’s Vineyard, Mass.

Bluefin was one of 10 documentar­ies officially selected to compete for the Audience Award. A Q&A followed with John Hopkins.Since its release, Hopkins’ doc has been officially selected for 24 internatio­nal film festivals. Bluefin has also received multiple best documentar­y nomination­s, including Raindance and Santa Barbara, while winning: the 2017 Grand Winner and Best Documentar­y Feature at the California Film

Awards (San Diego), the 2017 San Francisco Internatio­nal Ocean Film Festival‘s Wildlife Award and the 2016 Best Atlantic Filmmaker Award at Lunenburg DocFest.

“I am thrilled that Bluefin continues to swim strongly since its release. Festival and wide audiences are still discoverin­g the film. It has been one of the more profitable titles at the NFB over the last several years, and my film is now available to one billion subscriber­s,” said Hopkins.

Bluefin was picked up by Hulu, iTunes, GooglePlay, Amazon Prime, Vimeo Plus, Microsoft, Sony PlayStatio­n, Starz, Tubi-TV and other platforms. It is airing on CBC’s Doc Channel and has been broadcast in Germany, Portugal, Spain and on the Russian Television (RT) Network.
