Cuthbert, Phaneuf hosting virtual 5K walk/run
Money raised will go towards Special Olympics P.E.I. programming
“With the cancellation of our Summerside luncheon and Enriching Lives Gala, we have been challenged to raise necessary funds during a very difficult time. This is a creative way to give back, and we are very grateful and excited.”

Two longtime supporters of Special Olympics P.E.I. are hosting a fundraising virtual 5K walk/run.
The event will be hosted by actress Elisha Cuthbert and NHLer Dion Phaneuf, Aug. 28-30.
“Every year at this time in June, Dion and I help host the Enriching Lives Gala for Special Olympics, along with friends, that successfully raises enough money to fund a full year of programming,” said Cuthbert. “With COVID-19 cancelling what would have been the 30th anniversary (in 2020), we knew we had to change it up.”
Cuthbert is hoping this event will help athletes continue their programs and progress.
“If you love to run or walk, if you know a Special Olympics athlete, if you are just motivated to do good, check it out at http://raceroster. com/32524,” she said. “By joining us or donating to our 5K race, you will be continuing these activities and enriching the lives of so many.”
Special Olympics P.E.I. executive director Charity Sheehan said these are challenging times for organizations.
“With the cancellation of our Summerside luncheon and Enriching Lives Gala, we have been challenged to raise necessary funds during a very difficult time,” said Sheehan. “This is a creative way to give back, and we are very grateful and excited.”
