Two more COVID-19 cases confirmed over weekend

-

Chief Public Health Officer Dr. Heather Morrison confirmed two new, unrelated cases of COVID-19 in P.E.I. on Sunday.

This brings the total number of active cases in the province to three.

Both cases are men – one in his 20s and one in his 40s – who work in unrelated nonhealth care industries and recently travelled domestically, outside Atlantic Canada.

They have been in selfisolation since arriving in the province and are doing well. Both men tested positive as part of routine testing and are being followed by public health. Contact tracing has been completed.

P.E.I.'s Chief Public Health Office continues to monitor the recent outbreak in New Brunswick, which has seen 63 new positive cases in the past six days. Most were related to outbreaks in the Moncton and Campbellton regions.

On Monday, six new cases of COVID-19 were announced in New Brunswick: three in the Moncton region (Zone 1) and three in the Campbellton region (Zone 5).

Morrison is urging Islanders to follow all public health measures in PE.I., as well as to avoid non-essential travel to the affected regions.

Islanders returning from travel to the Moncton and Campbellton regions should wear a mask at all times when outside of their household for the next two weeks, monitor for symptoms and get tested if symptoms develop. They should also avoid public places, large gatherings and minimize contact with individuals outside their close circle of contacts and household.
