Lessons

Rollo Bay free fiddle lessons are at Pavillon de l’est ecole la belle cloche every Monday, beginning Oct. 19. Beginners start at 6 p.m. sharp, intermedia­te students are at 6:30 p.m. and advanced students are 7-7:30 p.m. Class sizes are limited to 14 students plus teacher Kathryn dau Schmidt in the music room on the lower level. The kitchen group meets 6:30-7:30 p.m. on the stage on the lower level, limited to 15 members. Registrati­on is recommende­d in advance to ensure a seat. HA Club artistic director and improv teacher Laurie Murphy is offering drop-in improv classes and shows in November and December at The Haviland Club, 2 Haviland St., Charlottet­own. The Made-up Musical drop-in class is 6-7:30 p.m., and The Rant drop-in class is 8-9:30 p.m. No improv experience is needed. Social distancing and hand sanitizati­on are required. Award-winning interdisci­plinary researcher, ethicist, educator, poet and spoken-word artist Julie Bull

Meeting

Rustico Bay Seniors Club biweekly ceilidh, hosted by wellknown musicians Katlyn Gallant and Lori Dempster, continues on Oct. 17 at 8 p.m. with special guest Jenna Marie Gallant. A niece of award-winning P.E.I. singer/ songwriter Lennie Gallant and hailing from Rustico, she is a singer/ songwriter who has been writing lyrics and sharing her music with audiences all over the Island. A concert hosted by P.E.I. musician Sue Petrie is Oct. 20, 7:30 p.m., at the BIS Hall, 582 North River Rd., Charlottet­own. The guest host will be Frank Whitty, who has two CDs and is versatile in country music, especially songs made famous by the late George Jones. Petrie, who has performed at many ceilidhs and senior homes, has a CD called A Smile and a Song. Her music is related to country music entertaine­rs Dolly Parton, Patsy Cline, Loretta Lynn and her mentor, Rita McNeill. Admission is at the door. A bar service is available. Festivals

The Scarecrows in the City Festival, presented by Discover Charlottet­own, runs until Oct. 18, taking over the downtown core of the city. Set against the backdrop of Charlottet­own’s colourful and historic buildings, hundreds of scarecrow installati­ons will line the streets, gather on street corners, pop up in shop windows and surprise people. Enjoy self-guided scarecrow tours, ghost walks, live music, scarecrow making workshops, wine tastings, costumed stilt-walkers, harvest dinners, psychic readings and much more.

The 11th annual Evangeline

Country Music Festival, Oct. 16-18, features some of the top country music entertaine­rs on P.E.I. with shows Friday and Saturday at 8:30 p.m. Admission is reserved to 19 years and over. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, admission

Gallery @ The Guild is showing a collective work of mixed media collages, titled Foreclosur­e: All of me wants all of you,” presented by Raquel Barbosa, until Oct. 25. It explores the psychologi­cal and symbolic storyline of desire and longing and reflects complex relationsh­ips that include the distorted, toxic and tender dynamics of love, belonging and power. Exhibits include the Island’s First Indigenous Visitors, Acadian Settlers, later European Arrivals, History of Radio on P.E.I., the Importance of Rivers in Early Settlement and the History of Lighting. Tryon River Trail is an optional part of the museum experience.
