On Thursday, October 29, Dorothy Thompson, 98 years old, passed away peacefully at her home on the Culloden Road in Mount Vernon. Predecease­d by her husband, Douglas (1993) and grandson Darryl (2008). Dorothy is survived by her son Kenneth (Arlene), Brockville, ON, and daughters Darla (John Rousseau), Mount Vernon, and Deborah, Woodbury, MN; grandsons Cory Thompson, Kingston, ON, Ryan Thompson, Brockville, ON, Christophe­r Thompson (Dionne Masse), Kelowna, BC, John Andrew Rousseau (Jessica Gillis), Charlottet­own, and granddaugh­ter Aryana Rousseau (Simon Livingston­e) Montreal, QC; great grandchild­ren Lili Lafrance, Joe Lafrance, Paulo Lafrance, Sam Lafrance, June Violet Livingston­e and Saga Dorothy Livingston­e, all of Montreal and Emily Thompson, Port Hope, ON. Also survived by her sister Tina Kerr, Toronto and Tina’s granddaugh­ter Darla Murphy (Paul), Charlottet­own. In 1922 Dorothy was the first of seven children born in Montreal to Violet and Phillip Garby who arrived in Canada in 1918 from Romania. Dorothy went to school in Rosemount and worked in her parents store until the late Forties. After World War II she married Douglas Thompson who had fought in the Canadian Navy. Doug and Dorothy lived in Rosemount and, later, Lorraine, Quebec as Doug worked for Gulf Oil. At first, Dorothy was a stay-athome mum as she and Doug began their family. As her children grew up she worked in and then owned a beauty salon. Dorothy and Doug moved to Prince Edward Island, when Doug retired in 1981. They bought a beautiful farm on the Northumber­land Strait in Wood Islands. She and Doug opened a Bed & Breakfast called “Baba’s Guest House” where they enjoyed the company of many visitors to the Island. Dorothy & Doug joined the Georgetown Baptist Church in the early 1980’s. Her strong faith carried her through the difficult times surroundin­g the death of Doug, her husband of 47 years. Dorothy joined the Wood Islands Women’s Institute in 1983. She was President from 1986 to 1988 and then again from 1991 to 1997. She also served as Vice President for a number of years. Dorothy joined the Wood Islands Presbyteri­an Church in 1994. She also joined the local chapter of the Atlantic Mission Society. In 1999 Dorothy moved into a new apartment next to her daughter, Darla, in Mount Vernon, where she lived the rest of her life. No visitation.
