OTHER AVENUES

I am a huge advocate for saving the planet and I live by those standards. I live off grid, I grow most of my own food and I am learning live with nature in every way I can. Our government is also trying to deal with the climate crisis with the goal, I assume, of saving the planet. However, in my humble opinion, they are going about it the wrong way and it will eventually be too little too late.

Our government has made this big announcement about installing electric car charging stations across P.E.I.? Wonderful!

My question is how many people on P.E.I. actually drive an electric car? And is it worth the expense at this time? Their idea is to encourage people to buy electric cars. OK, but how many people on P.E.I. can actually afford an electric car?

Unlike Minister Brad Trivers and other ministers in our government, most Islanders cannot use taxpayers' money to purchase an electric car for themselves. My budget for a car is about $5,000 and I try to make that car last three or four years. As much as I would love to have an electric car, I simply do not see it in my foreseeable future and I do not have access to the public purse.

There are many other avenues to help save the planet that we the people and our government are in denial of. For example, our constant spraying of toxic chemicals in our environment, our love for meat, and our constant desire to own things we don’t really need. Unless each and everyone one of us changes their attitude, we will be doomed to fail. And our government is complicit in this failure. Anne Gallant, Millvale
