Team suspends activities following positive COVID-19 test; tonight’s game in Charlottetown postoned

Tonight’s QMJHL game between the Charlottetown Islanders and the Saint John Sea Dogs has been postponed after the New Brunswick team announced it has recorded a positive COVID-19 test among the staff and has suspended team in-person activities.

The league issued a memo Thursday to Sea Dogs' executives in which it outlined the following steps to take in accordance with COVID-19 protocols:

• Players and staff will now be isolated;

• Members of the organization who have been in contact with the infected person will be tested;

• Public health officials have been contacted by the league.

They are exploring the nature of all contacts between players and staff.

The Cape Breton Eagles, who played the Sea Dogs Wednesday night, will not be competing until the investigation by public health officials is complete.

In addition to tonight’s game in Charlottetown, four other games involving either Saint John or Cape Breton have been postponed through Nov. 25.

In other COVID-19 news from New Brunswick on Thursday, the province reported four new positive cases. In addition, it was announced that Zone 1 (Moncton region) was moving to Orange level as of 12 a.m. today under the province’s revised COVID-19 recovery plan.

Public Health recommended the return to Orange level due to the doubling of cases in fewer than six days, outbreaks in settings of high vulnerability where there is a risk of community transmission and reports of situations where some individuals were not complying with public health measures.

Meanwhile, Nova Scotia reported one more case of COVID-19 on Thursday.

P.E.I. has not reported any new cases this week.
