Barrieau trainees sweep features

With one final surge at the wire, The Rev stuck his nose in front to win the $2,900 preferred pace Sunday afternoon at Red Shores at the Charlottet­own Driving Park.

Screen Test (Corey MacPherson) was first to the lead in the featured pace and led through the first threestati­ons with well-rated fractions of 28.4, 58.4 and 1:28.3.

The Rev and trainer-driver Gilles Barrieau sat in the pocket and sprinted home in the final panel to hit the wire on top by a nose in 1:55.3 in his 44th lifetime win for owner Jeff Skinner of Nova Scotia.

Screen Test was second in that photo while Soccer Hanover (Marc Campbell) was third.

Cheeky Little Minx and trainer-driver Barrieau prevailed in a tight photo finish with Mile Hill Willie (Kenny Arsenault) in the $2,450 open trot, stopping the clock in 1:58.3.

Wayne MacRae of Nova Scotia co-owns the winning trot mare with Howmac Farms Ltd., of North Wiltshire.

Windemered­ontuworry (Marc Campbell) was third.

Barrieau had two others wins on the day for a driving quadruple as Sports Royalty scored in 1:56.1 for trainer Wendy MacRae, and Here Comes Red was a winner in 1:59.1 from the Wade Sorrie stable.

Jason Hughes had a driving triple on the day, including a 1:59 first-up victory with Clever Thing for trainer Kyle Wilkie.

Hughes also had a pair of wins from his own stable with Jeb (1:57.3) and Warrawee Ulla (1:57.1).

Another pilot with three trips to the winner’s circle was Ken Murphy as he won with Gia Diamond (1:57.4) for trainer Cyril MacDonald, Theycallme­dude (1:57.1) for trainer Trevor Hicken and Evening Maelstrom (2:00.1) from the Clifford Murphy stable.
