Aces defeat IceDogs

Tignish earns four points in weekend play to move into a first-place tie with Georgetown

GEORGETOWN – The Georgetown Tri County Insulfoam IceDogs now have company atop the Razzy’s P.E.I. Junior C Hockey League standings.

The Tignish Perry's Constructi­on Aces, led by the 45-save performanc­e from goaltender Colin Gaudette, defeated the host IceDogs 5-3 at the Three Rivers Sportsplex on Saturday night. The result leaves both teams with identical 10-3-0 records.

It was a four-point weekend for the Aces, who blanked the SherwoodMe­tros 4-0 in Tignish on Friday night. Georgetown also played Friday night, defeating the Crapaud-based Southside MacDonald's Excavation/EF MacPhee Lynx 8-1.

Also on Saturday night, the host North River Flames edged the Lynx 5-4.

ACES 5 ICEDOGS 3

In Georgetown, Alex Artur, Tristan Cahill and Lexin Gaudet all had a goal and an assist for the Aces. Dominic Arsenault and Jesse Hackett added single markers. Brayden Handrahan and Ethan Rix collected assists.

Jacob MacEachern (1-1), Ty Peardon (1-1) and Daniel Martel replied for the IceDogs. Brandon Barrett, Hayden Somers, Jack Triantafil­lou and Keir Warren earned other helpers.

The IceDogs outshot the Aces 48-31. Summer PippyDoche­rty (11-15) and Barrett (15-16) shared the goaltendin­g duties for Georgetown.

ACES 4 METROS 0

At the Tignish Credit Union Arena, Cole Gallant stopped all 26 shots he faced for the Aces.

Artur, Kane Arsenault, James Doyle and Nathan Grigg scored for Tignish. Gaudet, Jacob Hogan, Dawson Sellick, Darcy Sherren and Oliver Smallman added helpers.

Zach Hughes turned aside 31 of 35 shots for the Metros (2-9-0).

The Aces held period advantages of 2-0 and 4-0.

FLAMES 5 LYNX 4

At the APM Centre in Cornwall, the Flames overcame a 2-1 deficit after one period to take a 5-3 advantage into the second intermissi­on.

Five different players – Owen Handregan, Griffin Hughes, Carter MacFadyen, Alex McCarron and Jackson Roberts – scored for the Flames (6-2-1). Tanner Hood (2), Ean Killam (2), Drew Doiron and Aaron McCloskey were credited with assists.

Tyson Beckingham (1-1), Nic Havenga, Reid MacKay and Logan VanHul countered for the Lynx (0-10-0).

Riley Payne (2), Carson Yeo, Nathan Paynter and Mitch Callaghan chipped in with helpers.

Jean-Luc Duguay stopped 29 shots for the win while Zachery DesRoches made 31 saves in the loss.

ICEDOGS 8 LYNX 1

At the Three Rivers Sportsplex, Cam White (2), Michael Jenkins (1-2), Alex MacEachern (1-2), Cole Mosher (1-1), Triantafil­lou (1-1), Jason Gormley and Ryan MacDonald scored for the IceDogs. Caden Kielly (3), Peardon (2), MacEachern, Thomas Docherty, Sammy Docherty and MacKenzie Good contribute­d other assists.

Yeo, assisted by Mitch Callaghan and Luke Payne, netted the lone goal for the Lynx.

The IceDogs led 1-0 after the first period and blew the game open with six unanswered goals in the middle frame.

Barrett made 24 saves in recording the win. Coulton Coles stopped 45 shots in the loss.
