THREE RIVERS – A teen who threatened to defecate in a man’s truck and was with a group of people when bundles of lit sparklers were thrown in yards in Three Rivers was recently given one year of probation.

The teen, who can’t be identified because of his age, appeared before Judge Nancy Orr in provincial court in Georgetown where he pleaded guilty to mischief and uttering a threat.

Crown attorney Chad McQuaid told the court Kings District RCMP received reports of a vehicle with several people in it causing trouble over a few days, including throwing eggs, sparklers and a metal snow marker.

McQuaid described the snow marker as being like a javelin.

The court heard the youth was at more than one location in November where sparklers were taped together and thrown into yards in Montague.

McQuaid said that in a separate incident, someone the youth was with threw a snow marker at a building causing almost $200 in damage.

In a separate incident, McQuaid said a man was at his home when he heard the youth yelling for him to come outside or he would defecate in the victim’s truck.

The accused was on probation at the time and had a prior youth record.

McQuaid said the consequences of the youth’s behaviour will get more serious if he continues along the path he is on.

Defence lawyer Justin Milne said his client was making poor associations with adults and got caught up in events that brought him before the court.

In sentencing the youth, Orr said that if he stayed in the courtroom for other cases that morning, he would see the consequences are different when someone commits offences as an adult.

With the probation, Orr ordered the youth to pay $92 in restitution.

Orr also warned the youth that if he gets any further charges or probation breaches once he turns 18, they will be dealt with in adult court.
