Leaders keep on winning

Eastern, Prince County win twice during major under-15 AAA play

Matthew MacLean set up three goals Sunday as the Eastern Express beat the MidIsle Matrix 4-2 in P.E.I. Major Under-15 AAA Hockey League action.

It was the second win of the weekend for the league-leading Eastern’s after blasting the Central Attack 13-3 on Saturday. The second-place Prince County Warriors also recorded a pair of victories, blanking the Attack 8-0 Friday and the Matrix 6-0 on Saturday.

Ross Campbell scored twice Sunday for the Express while

Cayle Coffin had a goal and an assists and Aiden Wilson rounded out the scoring for the visitors at the South Shore Actiplex in Crapaud. Mason Power had two assists while Owen MacPherson and Evan Nicholson each chipped in one.

Matthew McDonald had a goal and an assist for the home side while Michael Arsenault also found the back of the net. Isaac Taweel, Lucas Thibeau and Noah Wolfe each chipped in a helper.

Hudson Bradley stopped 19 shots for the win while Landon MacKinnon faced 50 shots in the loss.

Each team went 1-for-3 on the power play.

Eastern, which held 1-0 and 3-1 period leads, improved to a league-leading 19-0-1 while Mid-Isle (4-16-0) is third in the four-team circuit.

WARRIORS 6 MATRIX 0

Carson Griffin took care of the offence and George Gallant was perfect in the crease Saturday for the Warriors.

Griffin had two goals and two assists and Gallant stopped all 19 shots he faced as the Warriors blanked the Matrix at the South Shore Actiplex.

Brian Zhang scored the winner 3:32 into the first period on a power play as the Warriors built 3-0 and 5-0 leads.

Ethan Dickson and Lincoln Waugh each had a goal and two assists while Denver Arsenault rounded out the scoring.

Eddy Doyle chipped in a pair of helpers while Colby Hudson, Kordell Ramsay and Andrew Thompson each contribute­d one.

Landon MacKinnon was peppered with 46 shots in the loss.

The second-place Warriors (14-6-0) are 20 points up on the third-place Matrix in the four-team league.

WARRIORS 8 ATTACK 0

Cole Echlin earned a 21save shutout Friday in the Warriors’ win.

Zhang had a goal and three assists while Dickson had a goal and two helpers at the O’Leary Community Sports Centre.

Jordan Shaw and Waugh each had a goal and two assists. Ramsay scored twice while Griffin and Ashton Brown rounded out the scoring. Reece Gallant, Will Murphy, Andrew Thompson, Tyson Wedge and Griffin each added one assist.

The Warriors held 3-0 and 6-0 period leads.
