Western pulls away in second period

MacLeod scores twice as Kensington earns IJHL win

Isaac Callaghan and Chandler Wood each had four-point games as the Arsenault’s Fish Mart Western Red Wings blasted the Hynes Paving Maniacs 8-2 Sunday in Island Junior Hockey League action.

The Kensington Moase Plumbing and Heating Vipers doubled the Maniacs 4-2 on Friday in the other weekend contest.

RED WINGS 8 MANIACS 2

The Red Wings and Maniacs were tied 1-1 after the first period but the home side scored five unanswered goals in the middle stanza to take a commanding 6-1 lead to the third at the Evangeline Recreation Centre in Abram Village.

Callaghan had three goals and an assist while Alex Morrissey, Austin Callaghan, Silas Handrahan, Kennedy Gallant and Bradley Campbell also scored.

Wood had four assists while Carter Cahill and Isaac Knox each chipped in a pair and singles were credited to Jack Des Roches, Austin Callaghan and Handrahan.

Reid Peardon and Emmett Lyons scored for the Maniacs while assists went to Ben MacIsaac and Jack King.

Stephan Giansante made 15 saves for the win while Alex Condon stopped 46 shots in the loss.

Western improved to a league-leading 20-2-0 while the Maniacs (1-21-0) sit in the basement of the fourteam circuit.

VIPERS 4 MANIACS 2

Dixon MacLeod had two goals to pace the Vipers past the Maniacs at the Credit Union Centre in Kensington.

Kalib Snow and Malcolm MacEachern each chipped in a goal and an assist in the victory while Joe MacEachern, Keegan Buchanan, Blake Gallant, Nick Trainor, Brett Ballum and Duncan Picketts each chipped in a helper.

Will MacDougall and Drew Bowman scored for the Kings with assists going to Jarrett Victor, Jacob Outhouse, Lyons and Elliott Parker.

Jonah Arbing made 42 saves for the win while Nicolas Jamieson stopped 42 shots in the loss.

The Vipers held 2-1 and 4-2 period leads.

Kensington improved to 11-9-0 and sits two points back of the A&S Scrap Metal Metros (11-9-2) for second place.
