Express pushes win streak to 15

The Eastern Express keeps on rolling.

The P.E.I. Major Under-15 AAA Hockey League leaders defeated the Mid-Isle Matrix 8-1 Sunday to increase their lead atop the standings to 13 points. It was their 15-straight win since losing 7-6 in overtime to Prince County Warriors on Dec. 3.

Here’s a recap of the weekend action.

EXPRESS 8 MATRIX 1

Justin Smith had two goals and an assist while Austin Walker had three helpers to pace Eastern to the victory at the South Shore Actiplex in Crapaud.

Aiden Wilson also scored twice while Ryan Dwyer and Carson MacKenzie each had a goal and an assist. Alexander Keus and Evan Nicholson rounded out the scoring in the win.

Ross Campbell had two assists while Cayle Coffin, Drew MacDonald, Matthew MacLean and Owen MacPherson each chipped in one.

Lucas Thibeau from Michael Arsenault and John Beaton replied for Mid-Isle.

Zach Clinton stopped seven shots for the win while Landon MacKinnon was peppered with 63 shots in the loss.

The Express, who held 2-1 and 5-1 period leads, went 3-for-7 on the power play and killed both of the Matrix’s chances with the man advantage. Eastern improved to 220-1 while Mid-Isle is 5-18-0.

MATRIX 5 ATTACK 4 OT

Arsenault completed his hat trick by scoring the winner with 3:45 left in overtime Saturday as the Matrix defeated the Central Attack 5-4 at MacLauchla­n Arena.

Luke Inman and Matthew McDonald each had a goal and an assist in the victory. Noah Wolfe had three assists while Isaac Taweel had two and singles were credited to Liam Boswall, Liam Flynn and Mitchell Ford.

Thatcher Hughes had three goals and an assist for the Attack while Easton Fitzpatric­k had three helpers.

Wil White rounded out the scoring for the home side while Spencer Freeze, Jordan Jennings-Hughes and Ethan Shaw each had an assist.

Evan Weeks made 37 saves for the win while Ethan Clark stopped 31 shots in the loss.

Mid-Isle led 3-1 after the first period but the game was tied 4-4 heading to the third.

Central is 2-18-2.

WARRIORS 9 ATTACK 1

Lincoln Waugh had two goals and three assists Friday to pace the Warriors to a 9-1 win over the Attack.

Tyson Wedge had two goals and an assist while Carson Griffin also scored a pair in the win at the O’Leary Community Sports Centre. Will Murphy, Kordell Ramsay and Brian Zhang each chipped in a goal and assist.

Ashton Brown had two helpers while singles went to Isaac Arsenault, Reece Gallant, Andrew Thompson and Travis Wedge.

Fitzpatric­k from Kaelib Callaghan and White replied for Central.
