Eight straight wins for Irish Ray

Irish Ray worked his way from the backfield to reach up for the lion’s share of the $20,200 Brian Andrew Memorial Stake for two-yearold trotters at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottet­own Driving Park on Sept. 22.

The two-year-old son of Muscle Through It trotted to his eighth straight victory from as many lifetime starts for trainer-driver Marc Campbell and owners Three Wisemen Stable of Kingston.

Camco Erin set the tempo in the lone stakes’ event of the evening program as driver Mike McGuigan sent the My MVP filly to the lead from Post 1 and parked out Post 3 starter Gettin Salty (driven by Corey MacPherson) through fractions of 29.3 and 59.1.

Irish Ray began his advance second-over heading to the half, then tipped three high on his way to the 1:30.2 three-quarters.

The undefeated trotter took dead aim at the lead coming off the last turn and got up for a length-and-a-quarter score in 2:02.1.

Camco Erin was second ahead of Win de mere got muscle( Jason Hughes ).

Trainer-driver Campbell made a quartet of trips to the winner’s circle as he also steered Filly Forty Seven to a 1:55.3 victory, Arc Light to a 1:58.4 win and The Lady Sheriff to a 1:56.1 score.

Atlantic Star (McGuigan) won the $2,850 featured pace in 1:56.3 for owner Mike Pollard of Stratford.

Mile Hill Willie got up in the stretch drive to win the $2,800 Open Trot in 1:59.2 for driver Gilles Barrieau, trainer and co-owner Paul Morrison and co-owner John Breau of New Brunswick.
