Young at Heart Theatre presents new show

-

Young at Heart Theatre is bringing new musical comedy to seniors across P.E.I. this spring.

"The Rules and Regulations for Hanging Out the Wash," written by Diane Barnes and Wade Lynch, with original music composed by Tyler Casat and Don Fraser, will have its debut throughout April, as it tours to longterm care, community care, hospitals, community halls and senior’s clubs. The play’s content is based on Prince Edward Island history. Research includes newspaper stories, oral history, songs, personal accounts and provincial archives.

“The play is essentially about the under-appreciated labour performed by women in the last two centuries. The intent is for senior women in care to realize that contemporary Canadians recognize and appreciate their contributions to their families and communities,” says co-writer Wade Lynch. “It’s also a lot of fun, as we enjoy the relationship of two neighbours (with very different opinions and traditions) develop and sweeten throughout the laundry day.”

"The Rules and Regulations For Hanging Out the Wash" is directed by Marlane O’brien and stars Jamie Cordes (who also serves as musical director), Brynn Cutcliffe and Marlene Handrahan.

There are still some opportunities to book the show for your club or venue, and to see it performed at various locations, including Milton Community Hall, The Seniors Active Living Centre, Eastern Kings Community Hall, Cornwall 50+ club and Three Rivers 50+Club. There will be a final public performance at Crapaud Community Hall on April 27 at 2 p.m. Tickets are available at the door, and there will be a 50-50 draw, door prizes and snacks.
