The Special Investigations Unit has announced there are two subject and two witness officers involved in their probe into the death of a man at a Burlington highrise apartment on Wednesday.

The SIU has still not identified the man, but have now confirmed he was 29 years old.

Police were called to the 16-storey apartment building at 975 Warwick Crt., just south of Plains Road East and west of King Road, at about 2:15 p.m., regarding a man on the ninth floor.

Officers entered the unit, and shortly afterward, the man’s body was found on the ground outside of the building. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Halton police spokesperson Joe Barr said, “there was an interaction with police.

“And as a result of that interaction, SIU was notified.”

The SIU is an arm’s-length agency that investigates incidents involving police resulting in serious injury, allegations of sexual assault or death.

SIU spokesperson Jason Gennaro said, “at this point, investigators are trying to determine what has transpired.”

The SIU has assigned five investigators and two forensics investigators to the case.

The SIU has asked any witnesses to contact the lead investigator at 1800-787-8529, ext. 1873.
