- DWIGHT PERRY

Fired twice for ditching work to attend a baseball game? How’d that happen? “My bosses warned, ‘Don’t even ask about taking any more time off,’” Dodgers fan, Rick Gottesman, 57, told the Los Angeles Times. “So I didn’t even ask. And they canned me.” Gottesman is not easily deterred. He and a friend recently walked to beat the traffic to Dodger Stadium — from Sherman Oaks, 22 miles away.

THE HEAT IS ON

Researchers say April was the 12th straight month of record global temperatures. Forget a cold day in hell — it’ll be a hot day on Earth when the Cubs finally win the World Series.
