Is pension security a thing of the past?

RE: Canada Post and U.S. Steel

I am a retiree of Canada Post. As such we receive yearly financial reports. The one for 2015 was very glowing about all the money being made through parcel deliveries. Profits were up, and they even thanked the employees for all their hard work to make this happen.

And here we are six months later with a strike/lockout looming, Canada Post is losing parcel delivery contracts at an alarming rate. Plus the threat of suspending our benefits, that seems to be the new hammer over our heads.

My thought on the subject is this: Is Canada Post deliberately trying to decimate it just as U.S. Steel is doing to Stelco and Nanticoke works?

My husband is a Stelco retiree and we live from month to month to see if he has a pension payment. So much for my 30 years and his 37 of faithful service and paying into our pensions and benefits.

It seems there are very few lines of work that are safe nowadays.
