Greenhouse seeks medical marijuana licence

- NIAGARA THIS WEEK

GRIMSBY — Proprietors of a Grimsby greenhouse are looking to get back into the legal pot business.

The owners of 585 Sobie Rd. are seeking a minor variance that would pave the way for it to apply to Health Canada for a licence to grow medical marijuana.

The property is no stranger to marijuana, as the greenhouse was formerly the site of a medicinal marijuana operation before Health Canada revamped rules surrounding growing pot for medicinal purposes, said Grimsby’s director of planning Michael Seaman. Under the previous rules patients could seek permits to grow their own pot, but in recent years Health Canada has moved to “industrialize” the process, granting licences to larger scale growers who can supply patients with medicinal marijuana.
