Man arrested following cash-register thefts at two Burlington stores

BURLINGTON — Halton police have arrested a man after two money grabs from cash registers in Burlington last month.

Investigat­ors say that on June 17 a man at a Dollar Tree outlet in the area of Dundas Street and Appleby Line approached the checkout and, while the cashier was assisting another customer, reached over the counter and grabbed a quantity of money from the register.

The culprit fled in a waiting vehicle.

A short time later, a man walked into a Shoppers Drug Mart in the area of Brant Street and Upper Middle Road.

The man paid for an item and, when the cash register opened, he reached over the counter and grabbed a quantity of money. He fled in a waiting vehicle.

Police believe the same man is responsibl­e for the thefts as well as similar occurrence­s in Halton and surroundin­g areas.

Joseph Hamilton Essibuah, 25, of Mississaug­a is charged with six counts each of theft under $5,000 and breach of probation.
