Man ar­rested fol­low­ing cash-reg­is­ter thefts at two Burling­ton stores

BURLING­TON — Hal­ton po­lice have ar­rested a man af­ter two money grabs from cash reg­is­ters in Burling­ton last month.

In­ves­ti­ga­tors say that on June 17 a man at a Dol­lar Tree out­let in the area of Dun­das Street and Ap­pleby Line ap­proached the check­out and, while the cashier was as­sist­ing an­other cus­tomer, reached over the counter and grabbed a quan­tity of money from the reg­is­ter.

The cul­prit fled in a wait­ing ve­hi­cle.

A short time later, a man walked into a Shop­pers Drug Mart in the area of Brant Street and Up­per Mid­dle Road.

The man paid for an item and, when the cash reg­is­ter opened, he reached over the counter and grabbed a quan­tity of money. He fled in a wait­ing ve­hi­cle.

Po­lice be­lieve the same man is re­spon­si­ble for the thefts as well as sim­i­lar oc­cur­rences in Hal­ton and sur­round­ing ar­eas.

Joseph Hamil­ton Es­si­buah, 25, of Mis­sis­sauga is charged with six counts each of theft un­der $5,000 and breach of pro­ba­tion.
