Local Sprint Car fans are getting ready for the biggest event of its kind in the country next week, the Six Nations Showdown at Ohsweken Speedway presenting the Craftsman World of Outlaws, the only Canadian stop this season on the lengthy WoO.

Along with the regular touring teams, Ohsweken is bringing in NASCAR Cup star Kasey Kahne, who is no slouch at competing with the 410 Sprint Cars.

Kahne, 36, is from Washington

State, and the former USAC Midget DIBNQ lFMET IJT PXO 8P0 UFBNT

with front-runners Brad Sweet and Daryn Pittman along with getting behind the wheel of his own winged Sprinter when his schedule allows.

Next week’s show will be the ninth for the WoO, and Ohsweken is continuing the tradition of bringing in a top-name NASCAR driver to compete. Three times Tony Stewart competed in the big race, and took two home two victories. Present WoO points leader Donny Schatz of ND has three Ohsweken wins to his credit, as does Jason Sides. Last year’s winner, Stewart Friesen of Niagara-on-the-Lake is the only Canadian driver to win the event.

The Outlaw cars appear similar to the regular weekly Sprint Cars at Ohsweken, but have larger engines at 410 cubic inches as opposed to the regular 360-cubic inch cars. In 2010 Kraig Kinser established the lap record on the clay oval with a 12.04-second, 112-mph posting, a benchmark that still stands.

The Six Nations Showdown will be held next Tuesday, July 26. The track will also host another major Sprint Car event next Monday, the Burger Barn Northern Crate Nationals, and Kahne is to compete in that race as well. The DIRT 358 .PEJlFET BOE .JOJ 4UPDLT XJMM

also compete next Tuesday, while Monday the ROC Sportsman Tour, Go Nuclear Late Model Tour, and Thunder Stocks will take to the track.

of the season. This was also ISMA’s return to the track after a nine-year absence, one of the oldest ovals in existence which started out as a dirt track in the 1920’s.

Starting ninth in the 18-car feature, Lichty took the point on lap 33 and never looked back. Taking second was Dave Shullick Jr of Ohio, and London’s Mark Sammut took third, claiming his second consecutive third place in two weeks.

The race was one of the fastest in ISMA history, taking less than 18 minutes to complete.

Lichty was grateful for the support he received after the race, in which he pocketed $4,200 (US).

“This was just an awesome job that was done by everybody, “he said. “After we got here I realized how I had forgotten how quick this place is. We weren’t that good in practice. But everyone just worked hard. This is the second win for the team this year, hopefully we can get more.” "GUFS lWF SBDFT -JDIUZ IPMET UIF
