Jail assault sends man to hospital with serious injuries

An inmate at the Hamilton-Wentworth Detention Centre on Barton Street was taken to hospital with serious injuries after an assault Tuesday.

Police were called to the jail around 2 p.m. Tuesday.

An “altercation” had taken place between two men, police say, and a 30-year-old inmate was transported to hospital with serious injuries.

A 25-year-old man has been charged with aggravated assault and failure to comply with probation.
