Harvest Picnic

It’s a three-day lineup sure to please. This annual outdoor festival runs Friday to Sunday at Christie Lake Conservati­on Area located on Highway 5 in Dundas. Featured acts include Ryan Adams, Jann Arden, Johnny Reid, Jim Cuddy, Alan Doyle, Cowboy Junkies, Rheostatic­s, Ian Tyson, Sylvia Tyson, Joel Plaskett and Autumn Hill. Attendees are asked to bring their guitars and sign up on show day for open-mic sessions between 6 and 9:30 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday during the main stage changeover­s. The picnic also includes a farmers’ market, craft vendors and workshops. Regular ticket prices are $59.50 plus service fee for adults, $19.50 plus service fee for youth (11-15) and children 10 and under are free. Multi-day passes are available. harvestpic­nic.ca

Elf

Yule love the outdoor family movie night at Eastgate Square Friday. It’s a jump start to the CHCH Christmas Toy Drive and attendees are asked to bring a donation of a new unwrapped toy. The movie “Elf” starts at dusk, 8 p.m., in the mall’s parking lot. Donations can be dropped off in the red toy box inside at the food court starting at 5 p.m. Face painting, Christmas crafts and more await. Prizes for those wearing Christmas PJs or ugly Christmas sweaters.

Craftadian

The Made in Hamilton Show, formerly the Made by Hand show, Aug. 27 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Admission is $3, (under 16 admitted free), free parking and free swag bags to the first 50 families. McMaster Innovation Park, 175 Longwood Rd. S. Portion of admission goes to Hamilton Food Share.

Rare fossils

Giant’s Rib Discovery Centre is showcasing fossils from the Royal Ontario Museum. The latest set of fossils includes two 435 million year old specimen from the Hamilton area. Rare coral and sea creatures from the area will be on display at the discovery centre weekends through to the end of November. The Discovery Centre, 650 Governors Rd. in Hamilton, is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and is free to the public (parking fees may apply). giantsrib.ca

Just peachy

The annual Winona Peach Festival runs Friday from 5 to 11 p.m. Saturday from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. and Sunday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. It’s at 1328 Barton St., Winona just west of Fifty Road. The festival has something for everyone, arts and crafts, amusement rides and games, commercial exhibits, Peach of a Car Show on Saturday and Sunday and a food court with the famous peach sundae. A free HSR shuttle is available from Eastgate Square to the festival. No pets please. winonapeac­h.com
