PC leader says he’ll scrap Liberal sex-ed curriculum

Progressive Conservative Leader Patrick Brown says if his party forms a government after the 2018 election, he would scrap the Liberals’ sex-ed curriculum. The curriculum was updated last year for the first time since 1998 to include same-sex relationships, and the dangers of online bullying and sexting. But some parts of the curriculum, particularly same-sex relationships, gender identity and masturbation, were controversial for some parents, who also complained the government should have consulted them more. It prompted some parents to protest and even pull their children from public school, saying the new program is not appropriate for school-aged children and does not align with their values. In a letter distributed Friday — just a week before a byelection in Scarborough-Rouge River — Brown says if elected, a PC government would scrap the curriculum and develop a new one in consultation with parents.
