Taxes are choking rural residents

RE: Wynne thinking polls as she vetoes tolls (Jan. 28)

This piece regarding toll roads talks about a gas tax enhancement that will produce hundreds of millions in revenue for transit for municipalities so Wynne says GTA can’t have tolls.

I think John Tory has it right. Let users pay for GTA roads. Gas taxes are punishing rural citizens for the benefit of Wynne’s increasingly GTA centric Ontario.

Believe me when I say transit projects (LRT Hamilton included) will be the biggest boondoggles in the history of this province, and, possibly the whole country. Wynne’s war on cars really grinds my gears.

It’s 15 minutes by car to the nearest food store, pharmacy, doctor etc. from where I live. Much the same for millions of other rural Ontario citizens.

Fuel tax up, electricity up, natural gas up! When will the energy tax madness stop? Did my wife and I struggle a lifetime to make a lovely home to retire in only to have it taxed away from us? Stop the madness! Tom Hibbard, Hagersville
