Cards extend Martinez
The St. Louis Cardinals and righthander Carlos Martinez have agreed to a $51-million, five-year contract extension that buys out his arbitration years and includes two team options, according to a person direct knowledge of the deal. The contract breaks the record for a pitcher reaching arbitration for the first time. Martinez, 25, went 14-7 with a 3.01 ERA and was voted an all-star two years ago, and 16-9 with a 3.04 ERA last season.
