Schools on alert while fugitive captured

Three Hamilton schools and an arena were placed in a “hold and secure” position Friday afternoon, while police investigated a report of an armed man.

Staff Sgt. Steve Hahn said police were notified that a man, who was the subject of a Canada-wide warrant, was on his way to the Hamilton area and could be armed.

The man — identified as 28-yearold Phillip Albert of Hamilton — was wanted for assault, uttering threats, mischief and failure to comply with probation, Hahn said.

Police began a search in the area and the man was arrested around 2 p.m. A gun was not recovered, Hahn said.
