Fire forces Queenston apartment evacuation

-

Residents of a Queenston Road apartment building were forced outside during a fire Thursday.

Emergency crews arrived to the building at 385 Queenston Rd. around 10:50 p.m.

Firefighters found heavy flames blazing in a first-floor unit with smoke billowing through to other floors.

The building was evacuated and the lone tenant of the on-fire apartment was found on the balcony and rescued. No injuries were reported.

Damage is estimated at $80,000 for the first-floor unit and $20,000 for the unit directly above, which sustained minor damage.

Fire department spokesperson Claudio Mostacci says the cause of the fire is believed to be electrical.

All residents were quickly allowed back in their units except for the lone occupant of the unit where the fire started. That resident will stay with friends.
