If you're considering purchasing a condo or already live in one, you're probably aware that this lifestyle choice comes with a unique set of considerations. While some lament the loss of a basement and more space, there are plenty of reasons why condo living may be perfect for you.

“If you've never lived in a condo, you might not be familiar with the ins and outs of this particular lifestyle,” says Ray Ferris, president of the Ontario Real Estate Association. “However, those who are will surely agree that this housing type comes with many benefits during the winter months.”

With the rise in condo popularity, more of us will be enjoying the perks of sky-high living. Here are just a few of them:

Parking: Your car,

if it's parked underground, doesn't need to be warmed up in the morning. Also, you never need to worry about brushing off snow or scraping off ice.

Shovelling:

Snow removal on driveways and sidewalks is taken care of by building maintenance crews at most condos and townhouse complexes. They also ice these areas, helping eliminate any slips and falls.

Taking the garbage out:

The refuse room is on the same floor in a building, so there's no need to put your coat and boots on to take out the trash.

Amenities:

These will depend on your building, but those with pools, saunas, gyms and party rooms will help keep you entertained and socializing with neighbours all winter long. You can also save on a pricey monthly gym membership.

Security:

Some buildings offer a secure entrance or a doorman. If your idea of winter is getting away from it all, it's reassuring to know that your home will be well protected when you're absent.

If you think condo living is right for you, be sure to speak with your Realtor about the many other benefits that come with this housing choice.
