Drug charges laid after police traffic stop

-

A traffic stop on Barton Street East led to a seizure of drugs, including fentanyl. Around 1:30 a.m. on Saturday, a patrol officer pulled over a black Mercedes on Barton near Wentworth Street North. Police say the man driving the car provided a fake name, and was placed under arrest. But the man broke free and ran east on Barton. When officers caught up with him, they say, he continued to assault the officers and a Taser was used. Police found 0.9 grams of fentanyl and other pills on the man, as well as a small amount of cash and “other evidence consistent with drug trafficking … including multiple phones.” Daniel Sombath Iem, 30, is charged with possession of codeine for the purpose of trafficking, proceeds of crime under $5,000, possession of sildenafil, possession of fentanyl, failing to comply with a recognizance, assaulting a police officer, resisting arrest and obstructing police. A 32-year-old woman who was with him is also charged with possession of codeine for the purpose of trafficking and proceeds of crime under $5,000.
